Every now and then an artist or group gets in touch with me on the ole Social Media to check out their music! It’s very rare but it’s cool when they do because it gives me a chance to hear new music and ask them a few questions. These artists are usually Irish, but not the one I want to talk about today. I’m also not actually going to review the record, I just want to give you the chance to have a listen, see what you think.
Eye-C are from Indiana and consist of rapper That Guy and producer DJ Fathouse. Their debut record is titled ‘E’ and when I asked the guys to describe their sound, they said that they “don’t want it to be defined. Our music encompasses every sound and feeling in the world, at least the ones we have heard and experienced.” However, they did go on top say that they get asked that quite often, so they’ve created their own genre, “Space Pop”! Furthermore, they hope that their music will spread peace, knowledge and love, while they also attempt to create music that will “push boundaries of modern day music”. So all in all, they sound like good guys.
Without getting specific, the record for me sounds like minimalist rap. It’s much more about its ambient beats than it is about its thought provoking lyrics but there are some bright moments in there too. It’s far out, but have a listen yourself if your looking for something totally different and fresh. To find the record, simply go to Spotify or find it in its entirety on YouTube.
