Jape: Endless Thread Album Review

Winner of two Choice Music Prize awards Jape has today released their sixth album, Endless Thread.

Jape’s extensive catalogue is full of glorious music. Pulled apart, their fearless fusion of genres, dancefloor/radio-friendly electronic bangers, and folky alt-rock productions set them on a pedestal most bands can only dream of ascending.

Always looking to push the boundaries, Endless Thread is a cheerful album seemingly brought forth from a decade long passed, with songs such as “The Hilbert Hotel” returning us to bygone times. “In Our Home” is a Beatles-esque take on a family Christmas with board games, while “Lashing Through The Minutes” encapsulates the essence of appreciating life’s intricacies, encouraging listeners to recognize the beauty in even the tiniest moments. “What A Day” and “Delete The Timeline” too, are as classic pop as they come.

Speaking about Endless Thread, Egan said: “I’ve been putting all my focus onto getting into the tiny details of songs these days, there is so much joy in the details. The title ‘Endless Thread’ reminds me we are all stitches on the rug of time who influence each other and inspire people in ways we don’t even know half the time, whether it’s an artist from the past or a thread on a social media page.”

Released via Faction Records, Endless Thread stands as a testament to Jape’s commitment to musical innovation. Recorded over the course of three years, Richard Egan, aka Jape, took inspiration from boundary-breaking solo records of the 1970s (Paul McCartney, Judee Sill, John Cale) as well as present-day production techniques.

Endless Thread aptly weaves together the intricate tapestry of sound, capturing the essence of timeless songwriting and modern production. This “tapestry of sound” can be linked directly to Egan’s use of ribbon microphones, tape machines and tube outboard equipment.

Produced and recorded by Egan at RARN studio, the album was mixed by David Odlum (Lisa O’Neill), and mastered by Seán Mac Erlaine.
