I’ve said it before (though not often enough) that Protomartyr are one of the leading post-punk bands in the world right now. The four albums they’ve released to date prove it, and if one song was to encapsulate their greatness, it may just be “Night-Blooming Cereus”.
An absolute masterpiece, “Night-Blooming Cereus” highlights as much as anything the incredible lyricism of frontman Joe Casey. The guy’s a poet.
