Myles O’Reilly: Music from the Threshold Album Review

Myles O’Reilly, a Renaissance man if there ever was one, has released a poignant new ambient album titled Music from the Threshold.

Myles O’Reilly has released several compositional-ambient albums to date and is well known for his collaborations with artists such as Rónán Ó Snodaigh (of Kíla) among many others. At times akin to the work of William Basinski, other times Brian Eno or Harold Budd, Music from the Threshold is an ambient album that forges its own road. Meditative, lush, and expansive, it extends a hand and asks you to trust its steps. Myles cites the likes of Kyle Bobby Dunn, Danielle Baquet-Long, Ian Hawgood, Stijn Hüwels and Taylor Deupree as inspiration.

Speaking about the album, Myles said, “Music from The Threshold is a collection that, for me, encapsulates everything I cherish about ambient music—its ability to serve as a balm for our thoughts, a canvas for daydreams, and a workout for our imagination.

“It becomes most potent when we need a personal and introspective journey into what often feels unclear and unreachable: those deeply stored emotions that are difficult to access on demand but essential to experience, especially when suspended between two worlds, where nothing is defined and where past and future hold no sway.”

Recorded in his home studio ‘The Crows Nest’, Myles has dedicated the album to his wife Aideen and their beloved cat, Noah Macken O’Reilly.
