Jamie Duffy Releases Debut EP On A Wing

Irish musician and songwriter Jamie Duffy has released his long-awaited debut EP On A Wing.

An artist you have probably heard of by now, Jamie Duffy has experienced an incredible rise since his debut single “Solas” made history as the most streamed debut song by an Irish artist since Hozier’s “Take Me To Church”. It has gone on to amass over 84 million Spotify streams. He has also received praise from the Irish Times who said “Whether he decides to be Ireland’s answer to Hans Zimmer or the next Yo-Yo Ma, the future is most certainly bright.”

Produced by BAFTA winner and Emmy-nominated Icelandic composer Atli Örvarsson, On A Wing consists of four beautiful songs that capture the full talent of Jamie Duffy.

Lead single “Torus” draws inspiration from the cyclical swimming patterns of basking sharks. Of the song, Jamie says, “In this piece, I was inspired by basking sharks swimming in circles. This behaviour mirrors my own experiences and relationships, often feeling cyclical. The torus-shaped circles these majestic creatures form symbolise the beautiful and wild aspects of life.”

The three new tracks, “Breathing”, “On a Wing”, and “Resonance” are equally compelling, with “Resonance” exploring the intensity of being thrown into the music industry unexpectedly and the drama and peril within that experience.

On the closing track “On a Wing”, we get vocals for the first time on one of Jamie’s songs. Here, the lyrics describe having to let go of a relationship that is holding you back. Delicately delivered, the instrumental aspect plays a key part in conjuring the feelings of nostalgia, sadness, and freedom that come with letting go.

Across these four tracks, we are reassured that one of Ireland’s brightest hopes has what it takes to shine on into the future.
