You’re probably well aware of this viral hit, but Cork youth group Kabin Crew have today released their track “The Spark” feat. Lisdoonvarna Crew via Rubyworks / 95.
“The response has been amazing,” said Garry McCarthy (GMCBeats), the creative director of the Kabin Studio and co-producer of “The Spark”. “The kids’ energy and positivity have inspired people worldwide. It’s been all over TikTok especially. It’s bonkers, we’ve never seen something like this!”
“The Spark” was born from a spontaneous burst of creativity at Kabin Studio, a repurposed metal container turned into a non-profit youth music space established in Knocknaheeny on Cork City’s northside in 2012. The Kabin Studio is also running an outreach initiative called Rhyme Island that is funded by Creative Ireland as part of the lead-up to Cruinniú na nÓg (The Gathering of Youth), Ireland’s national day of celebrating children’s creativity.
The song features wholesome lyrics delivered by a group of talented Irish children, aged between nine and 12. They take turns rapping and showing off their moves in the music video which was shot by Seán Downey, aka SwanIGuess, a videographer and tutor within the Kabin team.
Each verse in “The Spark” tells the story of overcoming challenges and finding one’s creative voice, exemplified by motivational lines like, “If you’re proud of who you are and what you do, shout it.” Since its initial release, “The Spark” has amassed over 350 million views on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok.
